Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta (UAJY) is a Catholic private institution of higher education founded on September 27th, 1965, Carried out by Slamet Rijadi Yogyakarta Foundation (YSR) in accordance with the spirit and inspiration of the work and devotion of Saint Albert the Great. The name of Atma Jaya is taken from the Sanskrit language. Atma means Spirit and Jaya means Supreme; together they mean The Supreme Spirit. Atma Jaya endeavors to provide higher education of super quality underpinned by superb spiritual and moral values.
The quality of the university is geared to meet the national quality standard of National Accreditation Boards and to benchmark the international standards such as ISO 9001:2008 and Asean University Network (AUN) Quality Standard. On April 2018, UAJY as an education institution has succesfully increased the level of accreditation to A (Excellent) level and on 2019 as the Top 5 Best Private Universities in Indonesia by National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) Research & Technology Ministry of the Republic of Indonesia’s assesment.
The Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY - Yogyakarta Special Region) is one of Indonesia's 34 provinces, a provincial-level autonomous region of Indonesia that also officially be recognized as monarchy within the government of Indonesia, ruled by the Yogyakarta Sultanate (King).
Yogyakarta or Jogja is located in the south part of Java Island, bordering to the Indian Ocean. So there are many beautiful beaches and karst in the southern border of Yogyakarta, in addition to mountain ranges that are no less interesting on the other side! Jogja is one of the foremost cultural centers of Java, its have a special charm. Jogja people are known as friendly people. In daily life, it is closely related to cultural activities. Gamelan, classical and contemporary Javanese dances, leather puppet shows, theater and other expressions of traditional art will keep the tourists spellbound. Some of the great attractions have glared at Kraton (Sultan's Palace). The Sultan's palace is the center of Jogja's traditional life and despite the advance of modernity, it still emanates the spirit of refinement, which has become the hallmark of Jogja's art for centuries.
Active Merapi Volcano, and beautiful beaches with white and black sands, also Karst adorn the beautiful nature of Jogja. The temples and museum that stores numerous types of historical objects complete the cultural story of Jogja. Culinary also becomes a reason why many tourists come to Jogja. The famous one is Gudeg. People can find it in the famous Malioboro area and in almost corners of Jogja. For who love coffee there is a specialty coffee, named Kopi Joss. The locals input a hot charcoal in a glass of coffee, this uniqueness makes the drink popular among tourists.
There are still thousands of other unique things that can be explored in Jogja, but one certain thing, Jogja is a convenient place for studying and learning many things of life.
